The masses need to be educated about cardohydrates to realize how their misconceptions can actually be doing
them more harm than good. Many may find it difficult to understand, but all will be explained about the two types
of carbohydrates there are, the ‘good’ and ‘bad’. Below we will describe the differences in each and why you should
embrace the good carbohydrates and avoid the bad. If this followed, your body will maintain it’s required nutrition
and energy and ensure quick weight loss!
1. Bad Carbohydrates: Although bad carbohydrates contain some nutrition in their natural
condition, but as soon as this food is processed through its various stages, almost all of the nutritional value is
lost. Processed foods contain higher sugar content, which is high in calories, the more you eat, the more fat you
pile on!
This will eventually lead to weight gain, and may possibly cause future problems with diabetes, mainly because your
body’s insulin control cannot cope with the increase in your blood sugar levels!
This type of bad carbohydrate food becomes good for nothing and we are left with inefficient calories that will
make you pile on the fat, and with little fiber content, they easily convert your body into fat deposits. This type
of food should be avoided if you really want to lose weight permanently.
Examples of such foods are chips, white bread, pasta, soft drinks, cakes, biscuits, etc.
2. Good Carbohydrates: So how to we differentiate the good carbohydrates from the ‘bad’? Good
carbohydrates are usually found in natural foods, such as the examples given below, and do not contain the ‘fast’
carbs which are found in processed foods which make you fat.
Good Carbohydrates are known as ‘slow’ carbs and take longer to digest and therefore, does not turn to fat (at
least not as quickly giving you time to burn the off)! Their high amounts of fiber content also make you feel full
for longer, so acting as a natural appetite suppressant.
So remember the difference we have in our Carbohydrate foods, not all are bad. You do not need a low carb diet. Make the right choices about carb
intake, and this can give rise to quick weight loss!
Example of Good Carbohydrates are Baked potato, Kidney beans, Corn, Cous cous, Fat free yogurt, Fruits, High
fibre cereal, Oatmeal, wholemeal pasta, Vegetables, Legumes, Whole wheat bread, brown/wild rice, Sweet potato
etc.
It is also important to remember that Carbohydrate consumption must be taken with balanced diet including
protein and fats, if you have any chance of permanent weight loss!
